Playtonik is full of features to entertain your fidgety fingers. Designed to be easy to pick up and play while also enabling expressive musical performance.
The heart of Playtonik is the physics. Each note is a floating bouncy ball, contained within a shape. Touch and motion controls let you spin and move the shape. When a note hits the side of the shape, it makes a sound.The bounces of the notes create new rhythms and the volume of the sound changes with the speed of each bounce. Play gently or play loud, it's up to you.Each shape has it's own behaviour, with varying gravity, mass and damping.
As the balls bounce around the inside of the shape, sounds are created at the point of collision. These are placed around you for an immersive sound.With each note sounding from a different point in space Playtonik sounds great on headphones!
Using Apple Core Haptics for Unity we create unique haptic feedback for each shape. Feel the bounce of each note.The collision properties match to the intensity of the haptics for a dynamic feel that can be gentle or intense.
Scale Mapped Keyboard - with a wide selection of musical scales to choose from, the on screen keyboard helps you stay in tune.Play with expression - touch the bottom of a key for a quiet note or the top of a key for a loud note.Visible Velocity - the reactive keyboard visuals show you which notes are active and the velocity of their last bounce.Strum the keys - swipe across the keyboard to create a sequence of notes.Latched Notes - notes you play will last a short time, but you can latch to keep them around. When latched the notes will periodically 'pop' to keep the sound moving.Tap sequence - not sure what notes to play? Tap the shape to release a note from the chosen scale. Experiment with tapping in different places for varied patterns.
Loop recorder - capture up to 20 seconds of note playing and play it back through the shapes. Free your hands for spinning the shape or experiment with melody and rhythm!Persistent between sessions - the recorded loop persists between runs of the app so you can keep hold of that idea for next time.
We love synths, so MIDI was essential! Trigger notes from a keyboard, send notes to another instrument, or both! Velocity sensitivity, gives you everything from subtle texture to intense cacophony!To help you stay in tune Playtonik can filter your MIDI input to fit the selected scale.Note information and CC input is included in all versions of Playtonik. If you're looking for more control, you can upgrade to Playtonik Pro.
Playtonik can receive CC messages to help you automate behaviour from your DAW. The following parameters are available.
CC0 = Shape change (values 0-4), also with Program Change 0-4
CC1 = Spin Impulse +/- (Modulation)
CC7 = Volume
CC12 = FX (reverb)
CC64 = Note Hold (typically sustain pedal)
CC69 = Spin Lock
